June 30th, 2010. The day will go down in history as the beginning of a new era. Remember, a wise man once said “there shall come a day when ye shall work no more” and I think he also said “enough, dude!”
And so it goes. Today is the first day of my retirement and I shall go to work no more. As you can see from the picture, my loving wife Petra decorated the most important places of the house (at least on first getting up). She did the coffee maker and also the spot where I tend to sit and drink the coffee (and read the paper). Awww, is she the sweetest ever or what?!!
And we had a nice lunch today with friends Jared and Ashleigh at Pooja, an Indian food buffet. And if that was not enough, we have an art class with one of the grandkids later today. So you can see I’m keeping busy, at least on the first day. But sharp-eyed readers will notice that I did NOT go to work.
Feel free to comment below…
Now you need a picture of you and your fancy retirement button!
I still only dream of retirement, but I dream more vividly and with such peaceful feelings, that I can almost smell it.
But being so much younger than you, I must toil the trenches for a bit more before I can say hello to Wonderland. I can only listen to the Cure, XTC, Oingo Boingo, John Wesley Harding and the Beatles and the…..in my spare time because I am WORKING the rest of the time. You get to listen to all that all day long, if you want. And you can play all day long or learn all day long or rest all day long or whatever you damn want to do all day long. Who wouldn’t drool?
Well, if it couldn’t be me, I’m glad it was you. Enjoy it and may it last as least as long as you worked and then some.
See you someday soon…
Dean
Oh yeah, and Elvis Costello.
@Ashleigh – Haha, and you were lucky enough to actually see that fancy button. Oooh!
@Dean – Thanks, my friend. Here’s hoping you can retire one of these days too. But what’s that about being “so much younger” than me? 😉
I’m trying to feel younger since I have to work a few more years. If only I’d worked for the government longer…
Government = over 38 years. Long, long time…
You have Petra AND retirement – Lucky man!!
@Grumpy – Haha, so true, so true! I have a really good Dad too 😉
