The 2023 Seattle And Bumbershoot Trip
This is our annual trip to Seattle for the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival. We’ve gone every year from 2001-2019 and now again in 2023. Thanks, Covid, for the canceled years. Also going this year, on various days, our friends Karl and Betty, Larry and Robin, Cal and Laura, and Margaret from Portland.
I’ll post some pictures soon, but first, here’s what we did on our trip.
Tuesday August 29th
Neil Young Solo At The Rady Shell In San Diego
July 11, 2023. Neil did a small tour of the left coast, promising to play a lot of rare and deep tracks, with few hits. Yes, he did Like A Hurricane but it was on the pump organ. Yes, there was Heart Of Gold but it was solo. There was a touch of Buffalo Springfield too. And yes, Four Strong Winds was folky as usual, but most of the rest of the set was more obscure.

The 2022 Wonderfront San Diego Trip
We stayed a few nights in nearby San Diego so we could attend the Wonderfront Music Festival. Since we had moved down south, it was close and relatively easy. It’s a three day music festival, held right on the San Diego waterfront with multiple (eight) stages and attractions. This was our first time attending (and only the second time it has been held), but we will most likely be going again in 2023. Anyway, there’s what we did there in 2022.

The Book I Read: The Beatles By Hunter Davies
This is the official one. The Beatles by Hunter Davies is the only authorized biography of the group. It was originally written back in 1968, but this is the updated edition. What that means is this: the full original 1968 book is included but also much more. At the end is a chapter from 1985 which updates where each Beatle is at in their lives. But even better, the first, lengthy chapter is a more recent writing from 2006 which updates the history quite a lot. So, the book is historical but also more timely. (continued…)
