It’s our annual trip to Seattle for the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival. We go every year, since 2001, making this our 16th year in a row. And we love it more than ever. And this year our granddaughter Josephine went with us. Also traveling, our friends Cal, Laura, Mama O, Aunt Sam, and Margaret.
I’ll post some pictures soon, but first, here’s what we did on our trip.
Sunday August 28th
We took the blue van to the airport and then flew Southwest Airlines to Seattle. Once there, we rented a car and drove to Ocean Shores on the Washington coast. On the way we stopped at Chipotle for lunch. We checked in to Worldmark Mariner’s Village, our home for two nights. After a quick trip to the grocery store for supplies we relaxed back at the condo. We saw deer on the lawn and the field below our balcony.
Monday August 29th
We walked to the beach and along it for a while. Josephine and Petra found some nice shells. Now hungry, we went to Los IV Hermanos for lunch with Mama O and Sam. The waitress was super nice and helpful, dealing with two vegans, a vegetarian, a gluten-free person, and more. Then we shopped around Ocean Shores for the afternoon. Once back at the condo, we went down to the beach again for a while.
Tuesday August 30th
We checked out of the Worldmark condo and drove to Seattle. On the way, in Olympia, we stopped at Hart’s Mesa for lunch. It was delicious. Once in Seattle, we checked in to the Worldmark Seattle (the Camlin) and then dropped off the rental car. We wouldn’t need it in Seattle. Then we took the monorail over to the Seattle Center, looking around a bit and relaxing by the International Fountain. Then back to the condo.
Wednesday August 31st
We had lunch at the Veggie Grill, a vegan chain that is a favorite of ours. Then we spent a little time exploring Pike Place Market. We went to a lot of tourist stuff on this trip because we wanted Josephine to see those things, since it was her first time in Seattle. We had some great cinnamon rolls and browsed for a while, then walked down the waterfront, to Ye Olde Curiosity Shop. We went in and looked around. Then we walked to the Ferry Terminal and took a ferry to Bainbridge Island. we walked, browsed, and shopped a bit, stopping for a pastry or gelato and also a vegan snack at Emmy’s Vegehaus. Then we took the ferry back to the mainland. We hopped a bus to the lower Queen Anne area and met our friends Cal and Laura for dinner at the Blue Water Taco Grill. We hadn’t seen them for a while so it was nice to visit. We took the monorail back to the condo.
Thursday September 1st
We rode the Seattle Ride The Ducks with Mama O and Sam. The Ducks are land/water vehicles that go both while giving a nice 90 minute tour of Seattle sights. Then we had some food at the Seattle Center Armory building. Next up was the Experience Music Project (EMP), again meeting up with Mama O and Sam. We all did the “On Stage” pretend to be a rock band experience as the soon to be infamous We Be Trippin’ band. Then back to the condo, the next day the Bumbershoot festival starts.
Stay tuned for part 2 …
