Saturday August 31
Day 2 of the Bumbershoot Festival. Lunch at Veggie Grill and then the monorail to the Seattle Center. We got this down. The first music act we saw was Donna Missal. We watched a few songs, not bad, but then looked for something else. We found The Blue Stones, two guys who really rocked out like a whole band’s worth. Pretty good stuff. Next we went to a meet-and-greet with singer Matt Maeson, which was pretty cool. There will be a photo soon, you know that. The next music artist we saw was Alex Lahey and I liked her a lot. It was power pop and new wave and fun too. I’ve already bought one of her CDs since the show. And we got her set list too. Then Matt Maeson played, he’s an up-and-coming pop singer-songwriter and was very good. Now it was time for a different stage and the artist known as LP. We’ve seen her a few times before and she is great and does not disappoint. And that was true again today! Then we watch part of a set by Alec Benjamin, good but not great IMHO, and finished the evening off with The Lumineers, who did a full headlining set.
Sunday September 1
Day 3 of the Bumbershoot Festival. Lunch at Cafe Yumm! and then we took the monorail to the festival. First up were a couple short films about the Space Needle, which were interesting. We caught the last part of a set by crooner Ryland James but only heard a little. Then we watch the dark rock of Nothing, Nowhere. A bit bleak but still not bad. Next up was a set by the band Bob Moses. I hadn’t heard of them but they were really good. Sort of a mix of rock and EDM but with actual people playing instruments. Then we listened to part of a hard rock set by Reignwolf that didn’t do much for me, so we went to a different stage and caught the last half of a set by female popster Bea Miller. It was pretty good and we did manage to get the set list. To close, we saw Taking Back Sunday, a rock band that has been around a decade at least but still rocks out. And that was it for the 2019 festival. Another fun year.
Monday September 2
We made a quick pit stop at Bartell’s Drugs, since Petra was feeling under the weather. Then took a bus or two to the Wayward Vegan Cafe. They have a h-u-g-e menu, all vegan and so varied with all types of meals. It was delicious! On the way back, well not really on the way, we stopped at the Elliot Bay Book Company and also Everyday Music, a great record store where of course I found a bunch of music. Then we bussed over to the Seattle Center and chilled by the International Fountain for a bit. And then back to the condo.
Tuesday September 3
Last day in Seattle, and a travel day. But before we left, we had lunch at El Borracho, with a donut dessert at Mighty-O Donuts. Then we went back to the Camlin to pick up our luggage and take the light rail to the airport. We flew home and that was that. Now it’s just the waiting until next year!
