The Kings played at home and kicked butt! They won big over the Portland Trailblazers. Now if they can just win some road games.

All good things must end, we had to come home from Santa Cruz. We were both tired from staying up late with our friends so we just chilled out at home and relaxed.

Saturday February 25, 2006 -
Having fun in Santa Cruz. Today we went for a walk around the harbor, it was nice exercise and interesting to see. Then later the 'boyz' and the 'girlz' split up for movies. Larry and I saw Neil Young 'Heart Of Gold', which was really good. He's so honest and heartfelt and has been through so much in the last year. His music is so truly sentimental and direct. He focused on his softer folk, country, rock side and it was great. Petra and Robin were not so lucky. They saw 'Date Movie' and reported back that it was pretty awful. I warned them, but did they listen? No. Too bad, you don't get your $9.50 back ;-)

And I love these latest poll statistics on our incompetent president and his evil empire:

Bush Approval Rating: 34%
Cheney Approval Rating: 18%

Approval of Bush's Handling of War: 30%
Approval of Bush's Handling of Katrina: 32%
Approval of Bush's "War on Terror": 43%

We are spending the weekend in Santa Cruz with our friends Larry and Robin. Tonight we went out for some Mexican food, don't know the name of the place. Then we went to a concert to see Michael Franti and Spearhead (web site). The opening acts, Keller Williams and Goddess Of Funk, didn't do much for any of us, but Michael and his band were very good. They are positive, energetic, and blend styles from reggae to rock to rap to whatever. And perhaps the coolest thing: Before (or after) the show you could pay for a 2CD set of the actual show itself! Yes, they recorded it through the sound board for a clean recording and then burned it quickly to CDs. So, within about 10 minutes after the concert ended, we had a 2CD set with the entire Michael Franti show that we had just watched on it. Too cool!! How many times have I gone to a concert and wished I had a CD copy of the show? Hundreds. This time I got one!

Argh! The Kings went to LA and got squashed by the dreaded Lakers. If the Kings don't get some road wins soon they will not even make the playoffs.

Tuesday February 21, 2006 -
The Kings won tonight in their first game after the all-star break. It was a blow-out and hopefully means good things for the rest of the season.

Monday February 20, 2006 -
Doggie duty. Wait, that didn't sound right. Anyway, we took the doj KC to the vet for her Bordadella vaccine (no relation to mordadella). The kennel (aka Summercamp) requires this and we will be talking her there next weekend while we go to Santa Cruz. She enjoyed the ride in the car more than the shots into the nose.

In the evening we ordered pizza from a new place near here, Giovanni's. It was pretty good if a bit less filling than I expected. And we watched a movie. It was Malibu's Most Wanted, a rap spoof with Jamie Kennedy. It was dumb but funny for what it was. Mindless and the homie from 'boo was dope, fo' shizzle. The Rotten Tomatoes site had this to say.

Saturday February 18, 2006 -
We had a small party here for Jasmine's birthday. Her family came over and we had some pizza and cake, with some presents. We had her and Josephine both here all weekend, until Monday afternoon. Petra's parents also dropped by our house today and wished the Jazzster a happy birthday.

Friday February 17, 2006 -
Granddaughter Jasmine turns three today. Time flies when, well, it pretty much always flies. We will have her over tomorrow for some cake and presents but let's take a minute to wish her a happy birthday! Go, Jazzy!

Hmmm, might be about time to get some pictures on that family page, one of these days...

Raziel comes home. He's doing better and it's time.

- Tuesday February 14, 2006 -
Happy Valentines Day to Petra B., queen of my world. Much love, yo.

The daughter and boyfriend came home from the hospital today. The little one, Razi, has to stay another day. He is a bit jaundiced and needs time under the lights. You know us California types, start tanning 'em young.

- Sunday February 12, 2006 -
The newest grandchild, Raziel, enters the world. Late and difficult, on oxygen for a little while, but seems to be ok. Eight pounds, 19 3/4 inches. Yow! Petra was in the room with Andrea (daughter) and Charlie for the birth and I watched the other grandkids. It was prettty emotional for all involved for many reasons. Happy birthday, Razi...

"Be Vewy, Vewy Quiet: I'm Hunting Wawyers"

"Cheney says shooting of fellow hunter was based on faulty intelligence."

"President George W. Bush defended his vice president's shooting of a fellow hunter, saying that the attack sent 'a strong message to terrorists everywhere.' "

"Here's this guy who got five draft deferments, and if he had just gotten basic training, he wouldn't have had these problems with weapons later in life." - a radio host

Our vice president shot his friend while hunting. They did not even announce it until a day later. Rumors are flying about why. He admits to having a beer earlier but says it was only one. If he wanted to shoot someone, he should have gone to Vietnam when he was draft age. Oh, wait, that was dangerous and he only sends other people's kids to die, not himself. Apparently the sheriff that investigate the shooting determined that a hunter was at fault. Hmmm, could it have been the one who fired the gun? Read more here and see how funny the story can be.

And here's some other thoughts about it:

Jon Stewart:

Jon Stewart: "I'm joined now by our own vice-presidential firearms mishap analyst, Rob Corddry. Rob, obviously a very unfortunate situation. How is the vice president handling it?

Rob Corddry: "Jon, tonight the vice president is standing by his decision to shoot Harry Wittington. According to the best intelligence available, there were quail hidden in the brush. Everyone believed at the time there were quail in the brush.
"And while the quail turned out to be a 78-year-old man, even knowing that today, Mr. Cheney insists he still would have shot Mr. Whittington in the face. He believes the world is a better place for his spreading buckshot throughout the entire region of Mr. Whittington's face."

Jon Stewart: "But why, Rob? If he had known Mr. Whittington was not a bird, why would he still have shot him?"

Rob Corddry: "Jon, in a post-9-11 world, the American people expect their leaders to be decisive. To not have shot his friend in the face would have sent a message to the quail that America is weak."

Jon Stewart: "That's horrible."

Rob Corddry: "Look, the mere fact that we're even talking about how the vice president drives up with his rich friends in cars to shoot farm-raised wingless quail-tards is letting the quail know 'how' we're hunting them. I'm sure right now those birds are laughing at us in that little 'covey' of theirs.

Jon Stewart: "I'm not sure birds can laugh, Rob."

Rob Corddry: "Well, whatever it is they do ... coo .. they're cooing at us right now, Jon, because here we are talking openly about our plans to hunt them. Jig is up. Quails one, America zero.

Jon Stewart: "Okay, well, on a purely human level, is the vice president at least sorry?"

Rob Corddry: "Jon, what difference does it make? The bullets are already in this man's face. Let's move forward across party lines as a people ... to get him some sort of mask."

David Letterman:

"Good news ladies and gentleman, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction ... It's Dick Cheney." [...]

"We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney." [...]

"The guy who got gunned down is a Republican lawyer and a big Republican donor and fortunately the buck shot was deflected by wads of laundered cash. So he's fine. He took a little in the wallet."

Jay Leno:

"When people found out he shot a lawyer his popularity is now at 92%" [...]

"Something I just found out today about the incident. Do you know that Dick Cheney tortured the guy for a half hour before he shot him?"

And don't even get me started about the 'sport' of hunting. Sport, my ass. Killing a defensless animal for fun is not a sport. It's cruel and senseless. How much would hunters like it if someone were given a shotgun and told to shoot THEM whle they stood or ran innocently through the woods and pastures! Actually, now, THAT might be a sport! A taste of their own medicine...

No work today. Petra had a couple more appointments, one at the dentist (finally, not cancer-related!) and then a mammogram later in the day. Everything seems to be ok. Larry and I went to see a film, Match Point (web site). I highly recommend this drama, coincidentally directed by Woody Allen but certainly not a comedy. Quote from the web site: “Match Point is a drama about ambition and obsession, the seduction of wealth, and the often discordant relationship between love and sexual passion. Perhaps most importantly, however, the story reveals the huge part luck plays in the events of our lives, refuting the comforting misconception that more of life is under our control than really is." That last sentence forms the thematic basis for the film and as heavy as it sounds, it is also entertaining.

Later in the day, we spent many hours at the hospital watching the grandkids while the daughter was examined and waiting to see if the new baby was going to happen. He didn't and she was sent home.

- Thursday February 9, 2006 -
Lots happening today. Work, of course. Also Petra had a morning OBGYN appointment and everything turned out fine from that. The there was the afternoon appointment with the oncologist to discuss the blood test and the bone scan. Great news, she is still NED (cancer slang for 'no evidence of disease'). Yay! Then our friends Larry and Robin came into town for a couple night stay and we all went out to dinner and to the Sacramento Kings game. And they won! So it was a good day in many ways.

- Tuesday February 7, 2006 -
Petra had her bone scan today. I took off and went with her for moral support. Here's what happens: First she went in and they shot her up with some radioactive goo, and then they told us to go to lunch and come back in an hour and a half. So, me and my glow girl went to Crepeville for a great meal. Then back to the facility for some time in the tube, so they say. We should have the results, hopefully, by Thursday's appointment with the oncologist.

- Sunday February 5, 2006 -
We had the grandkids this weekend, went to the park and playground one day and Fairytale Town the next. Fun! The kids loved it too...

- Friday February 3, 2006 -
Petra had an appointment at the reconstructive surgeon, another ounce was added today. Ouch! She is moving forward with it, hoping it will be over soon.

- Thursday February 2, 2006 -
Petra had a blood test at the oncologist's office today. We go back for a discussion of the results next Thursday. Every three months. Meanwhile, her bone scan is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Will you be watching the Grammy Awards on February 8th? Why or why not?
